Is this happening only with Google Sign-in?

Do you remember after any change this started to happen?

Let's troubleshoot the issue by Resetting the Internet Explorer settings. Moreover, some of the Internet Explorer setting might impact the behavior of the Microsoft Edge. So, perform this action and see if it makes any difference.

  1. Close all Internet Explorer windows that are currently open.

  2. Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar. Changing your settings will affect both Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer for the desktop.

  3. Tap or click the Tools button , and then tap or click Internet options.

  4. Tap or Click the Advanced tab, and then tap or click Reset.

  5. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, tap or click Reset.

  6. When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, tap or click Close, and then tap or click OK. You'll need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.

Now check the issue to see if it works fine. Also try browsing the site in InPrivate mode. You can start InPrivate Browsing from the Safety menu, by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P, or from the New Tab page. Internet Explorer will launch a new browser session that won't keep any information about webpages you visit or searches you perform. Closing the browser window will end your InPrivate Browsing session. Same shortcut keys work for Microsoft Edge to launch InPrivate mode.

This has only happened with Google Sign-in, but Microsoft Edge is also slower opening tabs than it used to be. No, I don't.

Unfortunately, I tried both of those things and I still got the same issue. Is there a further step I can take to maybe "reset" Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge without resetting Windows?

Thank you for getting back to us with an update.

There might be a small setting or an add-on might be causing this behavior. Try to access the site on Internet Explorer without add-ons.

* Press Windows Key + R, to open run command.

* Copy and paste the below run command into it and hit Enter Key.

iexplore .exe – extoff

* This should bring up Internet Explorer in the No Add-ons mode. Now try to access the site and see if it works.

Incase problem still persist, then try to setup another User Profile and test this issue. This will give clue for the root cause. Refer the article Set up accounts on Windows 10 .

What you suggested (running IE without add-ons) works, and it explains why it works in Chrome. How do I access my add-ons and identify which add-on is causing my issue so I can remove it?

Hello John,

You can refer Manage add-ons in Internet Explorer to learn more about this. Follow the steps suggested there and manage add-ons accordingly. To find out which add-on causing the issue you can test them by disabling a group at a time.

Since this reply, I've tried signing in on Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer with select add-ons and with all add-ons disabled. I just recently (temporarily) replaced the Bing search add-on with the Google search add-on to see if it was the culprit, because I couldn't disable it otherwise.

I'm really thankful for all your help, but this doesn't seem to be working either. I just tried it again in No-Add-Ons mode and it didn't work, unlike the first time.

I was just wanting to clarify that I was also having my problem with Microsoft Edge. You might have thought I was having my issue with Internet Explorer because I tried to fix my issue through IE settings.

I just wanted to note that a few days ago Microsoft issued an update through Windows Update and the issue is resolved. I now have no problem signing into Gmail. Microsoft Edge is also not unnecessarily slow anymore either.
